Escrima, the Spanish word for “fencing”, is the name given to armed and unarmed applications of Filipino martial arts. In learning a battlefield art that has only recently developed into a sport, the Escrima student begins with single or dual weapons and gradually learns to apply the same techniques empty-handed.

A deadly approach to combat, Escrima is known for lighting up quick self-defense and simultaneous counterattacks and blocks. Each of these DVDs teaches different aspects of the Latosa Escrima System as taught in their schools. The videos complement each other, but also function as complete training aids.

Weapons to Empty Hands focus in the familiar figure-of-eight pattern.

Mr. Latosa explains that while some interpret this move as defensive, the techniques can best be used to pressure an attack.

The three intervals are explained, as is the figure 8 as a footwork pattern. Includes: crossing over to barehanded combat, the concept of “zoning”, stepping in and using a figure eight to intercept kicks and knee strikes.

Explained is the “so what?” theory of counterattacks: the attacker intercepts your movement, you say “so what?” as your follow-up goes right around!.
