Evolutionary leaps happen when new configurations emerge from the combination of two or more structures. The synergy of two men, each from different worlds, creates a new paradigm – the interface of gun, knife, and empty hand.

When confronted with these dangerous situations, one needs sharp, intelligent responses derived from the collaboration between Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny and Gabe Suarez. This DVD demonstrates how to handle potential close quarter fence problems and situations using “the Kali Fence” and how to intercept and defend against attacks from this stance. A key defensive technique is the innovative “Dog Catcher,” providing an initial response to common high and mid-line attacks with empty hand and knife, enabling access to weapons or empty-handed responses. Witnessing these techniques tested in high-pressure scenarios enhances your understanding of the material – as the saying goes, “If you see him taught, you see him fought.”

The majority of the footage was captured in the fall of 1988, approximately six months before the formation of the Dog Brothers, during the first national tournament of what would later be known as WEKAF. Unbeknownst to them at the time, Eric and Marc were on the brink of creating the Dog Brothers, and this encounter marked their introduction to Arlan Sanford, who has been accompanying them on their journey ever since. Besides its primary value, this DVD provides insight into the challenges they faced during their pursuit of truth.

As many of you are aware, individuals and groups within the FMA have not always had harmonious relationships. However, this particular day served as a special occasion, where a strong call for unity for the common good was met with widespread agreement. We were fortunate to gather numerous luminaries from the American FMA world in one room on that day, coinciding with the presence of a professional camera crew. Whenever possible, we have included footage of these experts in action, along with additional scenes from archival sources.

In the DVD conversion process, we included a 30-minute segment featuring GM Leo Giron, incorporating an in-depth interview Guro Crafty conducted with him in his basement training room in Stockton in 1991. Editor Ron “Night Owl” Gabriel skillfully integrated extremely rare footage of famous Bolo training battalions and rare WW2 scenes. The result, in our opinion, is a compelling film that effectively conveys the essence of this martial art.
